The College started computer teaching and research as early as the beginning of the 1980s. In 1997, the College began to recruit computer-based majors. The Department of Computer and Information Engineering was founded in 2003 and renamed the College of Information Engineering and Art Design (CIEAD) in 2014. At present, CIEAD consists of three undergraduate majors, software engineering, Internet of things engineering, and digital media technology and two junior college majors, computer application, and architectural decoration engineering. A total of 1,323 students, including 680 undergraduates study at the College.

CIEAD now has six teaching units, including the software engineering teaching and research section, the Internet of things engineering teaching and research section, the digital media technology teaching and research section, the computer basis teaching and research section, the computer application teaching and research section, and the architectural decoration engineering teaching and research section. There are 53 full-time teachers, including 4 professors, 9 associate professors, 13 doctors (including 2 doctoral candidates), and 12 teachers experiencing overseas study or advanced study aboard.

CIEAD has successively won 4 awards for national and provincial teaching achievements. Besides 1 provincial newly-emerging characteristic major (software engineering), CIEAD one by one set up 1 national course of high-quality resources sharing, 3 provincial intensive online and open courses, and 48 school-level teaching reform courses and published 1 textbook.

In recent years, CIEAD has achieved the “vigorous Youth League branch of national higher education institutions” and “the first batch of provincial Party construction characteristic brand under higher education institutions” and other above-provincial advanced models. Students have won more than 60 provincial or above awards on Class-A competitions, such as the “Challenge Cup” Provincial Competition of Undergraduates’ Extracurricular Scientific and Technological Works and the Provincial Programming Competition and obtained more than 10 patents. The employment rate stabilizes above 97% and the College has been awarded as the school-level “advanced employment unit” for years because of its employment-based work.

With the advent of the Internet+ era, CIEAD meets a blooming period of development. Therefore, CIEAD will seize opportunities and take advantages of the situation or make full use of its own advantages to continuously promote education and teaching reforms. The College will meticulously cultivate students to be the high-quality applied personnel better adapted to the needs of economic society development and strive to turn the College into a distinctive and well-known institution of teaching and research.
