The College of Electrical Engineering, Zhejiang University of Water Resources and Electric Power, which developed from the electrical teaching and research section set up at the beginning of establishing the university, is one of the most time-honored colleges. Currently, the School has three undergraduate majors, electrical engineering and its automation, new energy science and engineering, and automation, and one junior college major, electronic and information engineering. Electrical engineering falls to a provincial first-class (Class B) discipline. Based on majors, four teaching and research sections, including the section of electric power, new energy, automation, and electronic information, were established, besides two experimental teaching centers, namely the electrician and electrical teaching center and the electrical experiment center. By May 2019, the School has 48 faculty members, including 3 professors, 17 persons with vice-senior titles, and 13 teachers with a Ph.D.; 1178 students, including 1016 undergraduates are studying at the School.

The College has a sound research laboratory for energy and power-based teaching, including the laboratory specializing in power plants of dynamic simulation, integrated electricity substation automation simulation, power supply and distribution technology, electrical tests, new energy and smart microgrids, wind power generation, process control technology, robotics, flexible power technology, detection and control. The laboratory area exceeds 4,000 m2 and the total value of laboratory equipment is more than RMB 30 million. The power engineering laboratory is assessed as a provincial demonstration center of experimental teaching and undertakes national special operation (electricians) training and examination.

The College attaches great importance to training students’ professional skills and comprehensive quality, encouraging students to be immersed in studying and digging to ceaselessly promote abilities and qualities but to actively participate in national and provincial academic competitions. In recent years, students have repeatedly obtained good results of many competitions, such as the National and Zhejiang Undergraduate Electronic Design Contest, the Zhejiang Smart Car Competition, and the Zhejiang Undergraduate Challenge Cup Competition.

A large number of students graduated from the College, including those who became backbones of technology and management in the water conservancy and power industry. At present, graduates of the School are quite popular in the society, which can be observed by the first-time employment rate above 95%, showing the sound quality of employment. In the future, the School will continue to cultivate high-quality technology-applied personnel.
